Tire Care and Safety Guide

Visual Inspection

Penny

Often, discovering potential problems with your tires is as simple as giving them a good visual once-over. The next time you check your air pressure, scan your treads for any foreign objects that may have punctured your tires. Also check the wear patterns on your treads as well. Look for excessive wear in the middle, outside and inside edges of the tread. Any type of uneven wear could indicate a problem.

Checking the amount of tread remaining is extremely important. Most tires have tread wear indicator bars molded into the tread pattern. When the tread is worn down to where you can see a solid bar of rubber across the width of two or more tread sections, it is time to replace your tire. The old tried and true method for checking tread depth is to place a penny in the tread groove with President Lincoln's head upside down and facing you. If you can see the top of Honest Abe's head, then you are ready for new tires.

If you have any traction, noise or vibration issues, or if you just would feel more comfortable with new tires, be sure to take your vehicle to Tire Town.
