History
The Vratarich family has been selling tires and servicing cars at their North Atherton Street location since 1964. That was the year that John Vratarich, and his wife Joan came to State College to open a tire shop. It has gone very well, because they and their family have called Tire Town their business and State College their home ever since.
In its early years, Tire Town operated as a single bay tire shop at the current site. As need for a larger, more modern facility emerged a somewhat unusual expansion project began. Unwilling to relocate and unable to afford to shut down during renovations an eight-bay building was actually built around and on top or their original shop. Once the new building was functioning under one roof, the former prefab metal building was disassembled and reused by another growing Centre County business. The completion of that building in 1980 launched Tire Town into a full-service auto repair facility.
As the business kept growing and in order to meet their customer’s needs, the second generation of Vratarich’s, sons, J.R. and Gary, expanded their building once again. In 2001, the facility grew to 12 service bays, while maintaining the personal, one-on-one service commitment that defined the company. They have continued Tire Town’s tradition of quality workmanship and outstanding customer service. In addition of being able to handle a larger volume of vehicles, this latest expansion has also enabled them to continue to keep up with today’s ever changing vehicles with a substantial investment in updated technology and equipment.
For over 45 years, Tire Town is still going strong and they pledge to carry on the tradition started back in 1964 of providing the best tires, parts and auto service available anywhere.
